Weekend Recap


The eighth grade boys defeated Marblehead 75-52 on Sunday afternoon. It was an outstanding performance by big man Nate Pillis who put up 21 points including several alley-oops with the help of Ray Cuevas, who added 20 himself. Henry Wright contributed 9 and Toby Adams, Marty Noone, Jeremy Lathrop and Griffin O’Brien helped scored as well as the Tigers reached a season high in points



Ipswich had an intense weekend against Danvers and Manchester-Essex.  On Saturday, Ipswich took undefeated Danvers down to the wire, but lost 55-52.  Max Chesley, Will Wertz, and Dylan York led the team in offense, with 14,12, and 9 points.  York, Chesley, Wertz and Nate Baise each had a three point bucket.  Sumner Groves had 2 key buckets to help out the team.  On Sunday, Ipswich went to overtime with Manchester-Essex, and won 48-47. Chesley hit three 3 pointers with 15 total points, Wertz chipped in 12, and Eric Mazzio have a strong game with 11 points.  Isaiah Gonzalez made notable plays on offense and defense, and made a clutch basket in overtime.  The seventh graders are now 6-8 in the season.



On Friday night, Ipswich came out strong and dominated Newburyport 34-19. The Tiers avenged a one-point loss to the Clippers a week earlier. Cullen Courville scored four points in the first quarter to give the Tigers a 12-4 lead and Ipswich never looked back. Callum Schofield chipped in with four, while Justin Brown, Joe Wertz, Zach Evitts and Luke Niederhelman had a bucket apiece. Rex Satter led the way with 17. On Saturday, the Tigers held their own for a half against powerful Weston, before dropping a 40-20 decision. Satter had 13, while Brown, Courville and Schofield had a bucket apiece. Liam Roberts grabbed several rebounds, while Collin Gray and Nick Kayata were exceptional on defense. 



The fifth grade girls extended their season record to 12-1 with wins over Winthrop (46-11) and Newburyport Immaculate Conception (50-8). This weekend’s wins where a true team effort as every player contributed to the scoring. Lucy Donahue led scoring with 22 points over the weekend followed by Allies Wile with 20, Jade Wilcox at 18 and Lyla Greenleaf at 16. Syesha Walker added 2 while playing excellent defense and Sophia Marshall kept her domination on rebounds added 4 to the scoring. Bella Gonzalez as usual controlled the game from the point guard position by executing some new wrinkles to the offense and netting 14 points for herself over two games.
